(Everything vintage)

So sorry that I am SO behind with my posts! ...keep getting distracted and posting other things, but at least you guys know that I have lots stored up for you! Also, next week I will be going to Graduate Fashion week, an amazing week where students get to show their graduate collections to some of the most influential people in Fashion. (can't believe that it is a whole year since I was showing my collection!) But this year I will be able to sit back and watch my friends, and people from my University show. I will post some of my favourites after the show.
Hope you're all having a lovely week. P.S thanks for all the love for my dog Teddy....he says HI!

Faces of Paris

Here are some of my favorite Advanced Style looks from Paris. Next week I'm off to Scandinavia to do some more shooting for my book. What is your favorite look?

A Little Bit of Red

Monday, May 30, 2011

I came across this beautiful lady near Central Park West. She was just leaving the house for the day in her lovely hat and coat when I asked if I could take her photo. If you are looking for fantastic hats like the one above, check out Ellen Christine Millinery ,you won't be dissapointed.

This is my dog Teddy. And yes, we look related! Just thought you guys would like to see my most favourite accessory of all...my Puli.

At Bloomingdales

I spotted this beautiful lady at the cafe in Bloomingdales and had to ask her for a photo. I love photographing strong, confident older women because they are great examples for all of us to live fuller, richer lives.

Mme Dominique Fallecker

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Thanks to Dita Von Teese and her wonderful friends I was able to meet and photograph one of the most spectacular women in Paris. Mme Dominique Fallecker works at Didier Ludot a wonderful vintage shop where I met and interviewed her for a piece airing on Canal + tomorrow. Her spirit shines just as bright as her fantastic style. More from Paris coming soon...

Even new(er) additions

My new babies.....the raffia heel platform beauties are from Dorothy Perkins (shocker) and cost just £40 and the second pair are a pair of pretty sexual Westwood-esque platforms that I got from a local "goth shop" (they are so high they make my feet look teeny). Anyways...just thought I would liven up this Tuesday evening with a bit of shoe porn for my gorgeous (AND growing) number of readers!....enjoy x

Paris à la Hanna Bernhard

I have been running around Paris, for the last few days, looking for great subjects for my book. Yesterday I met up with Nicole,71, the mother behind the fantastic jewelry line Hanna Bernhard. If you haven't seen her site, you have to check it out http://french-bakelite.com/ . Nicole is wearing one of her daughter's fantastic pins in the photo above. I'm off to shoot a little piece with Canal+, but expect some more great photos of Nicole at a later date.

Advanced Style in Paris

I am in Paris until Saturday, shooting for my book and the first person I happened to photograph is a woman from New York. It turns out she only lives a few blocks away from me! Tomorrow I am being filmed for Canal+ so if you know any Parisian ladies with Advanced Style email me at advancedstyleinfo@gmail.com . I will be at the Jardin du Palais-Royal tomorrow afternoon after 3.

In amongst it all

crochet top vintage, skirt h&m, arm bangle monsoon, gold beaded bag vintage.

Decided to give you guys a little insight into the chaos that is my wardrobe....I say wardrobe but really its a rail with far too many clothes, shoes, scarves and bags thrown on it (as my actual wardrobe is completely full.) I found this beautiful little gold beaded bag that my mum's friend gave to me for "dressing up" when I was little, i used to make my little brother charlie carry it round wearing a dress and blonde wig and make him answer to the name charlotte...hence why it's missing a few beads! But I still love the bag, even now! Anyways, hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. The weather in Manchester is brightening up now, as is my mood!

The New 90 Year Old

Thursday, May 19, 2011

All of the ladies above are between 90 and 99 years old. They do pilates, go out dancing, and have busier social lives than I do. I have learned that the key to living a long happy life, is to stay active and interested in the world. These gorgeous ladies take away the fear of aging and give us all something to look forward to.

An Advanced Style Makeover

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

After my divine run in with the girls from England(check out yesterday's post for the full story), I thought I'd brighten up Carol's day with an Advanced Style makeover. Carol has been a bit down lately, so she decided to come to New York for her 66th birthday, in order to get re-inspired. Carol rarely wears color so after a trip to Debra's, where we played with hats and put some bright make up on her, we headed over to Off Broadway Boutique. Lynn, Pat and the gang were ready to lend a helping hand for Carol's final transformation. We were even able to convince her to put on a little color. What do you think of Carol's new look? I hope you enjoy the videos above. It was truly wonderful running into these fantastic ladies who showed me that the ladies on Advanced Style are inspiring others to feel good about themselves.

Advanced Style's Moment of Divine Intervention

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

The most wonderful thing happened last night. I was on my way home from a performance at Town Hall when I ran into two lovely ladies from Northern England. It was 10:40 pm and I got off on a subway stop that I don't usually exit from, when all of the sudden the ladies above started shouting, "Ari Ari." I thought that I must know them from somewhere but realized that I didn't recognize them at all.
They told me that they  had been following Advanced Style for over a year and that the ladies I feature inspired them to come to New York. The lady on the left wanted to take a trip to New York for her 66th birthday to feel as free as the women I photograph everyday. She told me that it's hard to be herself in the small town where she resides,so she couldn't wait to visit New York where she could dress up and express herself.

This was a truly  some kind of divine intervention.Neither one of them had contacted me so to run into them in the middle of the night was pretty unbelievable. I pulled out my Flip camera to capture the moment on video and told them that I would take them to Off Broadway Boutique today. It was the Birthday Girl's goal to be on Advanced Style, so I had to make her wish come true.

"To Age Is A Privilege"

Monday, May 16, 2011

I stopped Joyce on the Upper West Side and asked her to share some of her style secrets.Joyce had some great advice, she said,"Style is about the right jewelry, the right know-how,the right neckline, and above all the right attitude." I think its important to share the ages of my subjects whenever possible, so I asked Joyce if she minded telling me how old she is. She replied, "Of course not. To age is a privilege, I am 79 years old."

Sunny Times

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Some photos taken in sunnier times. unfortunately the weather in England has taken a turn for the worse and I can no longer spend weekends visiting little villages and going to spring fairs, vintage sales and boot fairs. But then again, I do have plenty of new things to show you all! at this fair, there was the most amazing native American man selling all sorts of trinkets and clothes, including this amazing tassel jacket with ACTUAL pony tail on it...a bit sick but also quite cool. I hope the weather where you are in the world is lots better than Manchester.
